Raymond Sheh

Research Scientist

Dr. Raymond Sheh is an expert in artificial intelligence and robotics with nine years of research and development experience in mechanical hardware, electronics, sensing, software and algorithms for applied autonomous robot locomotion, sensing, mapping and machine learning.

In his current role as a Research Scientist at Robolit LLC and working with the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Dr. Sheh is responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, standardization and iterative improvement of standard test methods for response robots. In addition to the application of an intimate understanding of responder requirements and the state-of-the-art in robotics capabilities, this work includes a significant outreach component, building consensus among robotics researchers, manufacturers and responders through the hosting and administration of robotics competitions, workshops, evaluation events and academic summer schools.

Dr. Sheh is also heavily involved in both the development and dissemination of cutting edge research in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, robot design and construction, 3D perception and mapping, computer vision and autonomous behaviours through his involvement with the RoboCupRescue Robot League and, preceding that, the RoboCup Standard Platform League. Dr. Sheh was the primary developer behind one of the most highly awarded teams in the competition over an extended period between 2005 and 2010. He has also been active in the dissemination of this work to other teams and researchers in this field through publications and teaching activities at international teaching camps and summer schools.
